B’desh bound cargo plane crashes in Greece

Dhaka: All eight people on board a cargo plane died when it crashed in Greece.

The plane crashed in the northern city of Kavala. Serbian Defense Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic confirmed this information.

Al Jazeera reported this information in a report.
According to the report, the Antonov AN-12 plane, operated by a Ukrainian company, crashed on Saturday (July 16) at night local time while carrying 11 tons of weapons and mines to Bangladesh.

The pilot requested an emergency landing at Kavala airport due to engine problems but crashed before reaching the runway. There were 8 passengers on the plane at that time.

A witness told that after hearing a loud noise, he went out and saw that the plane’s engine was on fire.

Local officials said seven units of the fire service were deployed but could not go near the accident site due to continuous blasts.

“We consider the cargo to be dangerous,” an online quoted a fire brigade official as saying.

Meanwhile, when contacted, ISPR sources in Dhaka told this correspondent that there were no weapons in the plane.
