Imphal: Maintaining the grand momentum of the multi-district environmental crusade launched a day prior, the Assam Rifles extended its World Environment Day celebrations into a second consecutive day of impactful ecological and community outreach initiatives in Manipur. Guided by the enduring spirit of the United Nations Environment Programme global campaign, the force reinforced its foundational commitment to carbon sequestration, climate resilience and societal welfare by executing synchronized afforestation and civil-military engagement programmes in the Imphal West and Bishnupur districts.

On 6 June 2026, a comprehensive tree plantation drive was executed at the Komlakhong Boating Point in Imphal West district, in close coordination with the Forest Department of Manipur and local residents. The event witnessed the joint participation of 40 Assam Rifles personnel, forest department officials, 30 members of local groups and 20 students from Phoubakchao High School. A total of 250 indigenous and fruit-bearing saplings, including Jamun, Hinchak, Mango, Gulmohar, Jackfruit and Sheesham, were meticulously planted. Under the expert guidance of forest officials, participants were trained in scientific soil preparation and long-term sapling maintenance, which was further augmented by an interactive session on biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation.

Simultaneously, the force expanded its green footprints at Nambol in Bishnupur district by organising a dedicated community outreach and environmental awareness programme. The dual-purpose initiative brought together members of the Nambol Thangtse Youth Club and other prominent locals to deliberate on the prevailing security environment and address vital public concerns regarding accessibility to health and education. Seamlessly blending security discussions with ecological stewardship, the event culminated in an awareness session on sustainable resource management. Working shoulder-to-shoulder, the personnel and community members jointly planted 160 eco-friendly saplings, including Jamun, Mango, Sheesham, Nilgiri and Gulmohar, within the base premises. This sustained green movement successfully enriched the regional landscape, fostered profound mutual trust and established a lasting template for environmental preservation across the state.
