Sorbung: To reinforce peace, security and regional stability, Assam Rifles organised security meetings at Sorde and Kasong Company Operating Bases (COBs) on 23 September 2026, fostering stronger coordination with local leadership, civil society organisations (CSOs) and village authorities.
At Kasong COB, the meeting commenced with a prayer by the local Pastor, followed by welcome remarks from the Force official. The session was attended by 30 representatives, including the village Headman, Secretary, village authority members, CSOs, ex-servicemen and women leaders. Concurrently, Sorde COB hosted village heads and authorities from remote settlements across the region under its responsibility, including Headman Phungyar, alongside Headmen and Village Authorities from Alang and Sorbung.
Deliberations focused on assessing the prevailing security environment, addressing local concerns and enhancing timely information sharing regarding movement, extortion, threats and recruitment activities by anti-national elements. The forums also addressed civic grievances, developmental needs, medical camp requirements and pre-recruitment training. Attendees were informed about community initiatives under Op Sadhbhavana and the Assam Rifles Community Assistance Programme, as well as upcoming recruitment drives for local youth. Expressing appreciation for the initiative, participating leaders pledged sustained cooperation, solidifying a collaborative framework essential for maintaining harmony and joint security vigilance across the state.
