Imphal: In a spirited initiative to promote sports and youth engagement, Assam Rifles organised a Civic Action Programme at Gehu Lampak, Kangjeibung Laiphrakpam on 21 May 2026. The event saw the distribution of hockey kits to Liberal Club Laiphrakpam, United Club and Saya Club, reaffirming the force’s commitment to nurturing grassroots sporting talent.
The ceremony was attended by enthusiastic youth, village elders and community leaders, who warmly welcomed the gesture. Hockey kits comprising sticks, balls, shin guards, gloves and jerseys were handed over to the clubs in a simple yet meaningful manner. The initiative aims to encourage young athletes of Kangjeibung Laiphrakpam to pursue hockey professionally and channelise their energy into constructive sporting pursuits.
A senior officer present underscored the role of sports in building discipline, character and national integration. He expressed confidence in the potential of the local youth and urged them to train diligently to represent their community and nation with pride at higher platforms.
The programme was conducted with the participation of 45 officials and troops of Assam Rifles. Known as the ‘Sentinels of the Northeast’, Assam Rifles has consistently undertaken civic action initiatives to support community welfare and development. Such endeavours contribute significantly to positive youth engagement and empowerment, strengthening the bonds between the force and the people.
