Assam: Padma Shri Awardee Uddhav Bharali sent to judicial custody

Guwahati: Padma Shri awardee from Assam Uddhav Bharali on Friday surrendered after the Gauhati High Court rejected his bail plea in a case related to the alleged molestation of a minor while she was under his foster care.

The internationally acclaimed innovator surrendered before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate of Lakhimpur in Assam.

The court sent Bharali to 14-day judicial custody.

Bharali was booked under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act for allegedly molesting a minor while she was under his foster care.

Police had registered an FIR against him under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act based on a complaint from a Chief Judicial Magistrate who was briefed by the District Legal Services Authority (DSLA), Lakhimpur on December 17.

Bharali said he was framed in the case and would fight for justice.
