Assam: One killed, another injured in police firing

Acting on a tip-off, police launched an operation to nab a rhino poacher who was allegedly involved in the recent killing of a one horned Rhino in Kaziranga National Park.

Guwahati: In two separate incidents, a suspected Rhino poacher was killed in police firing in Golaghat district while a dacoit was injured in a police encounter in Cachar district in Assam.

Acting on a tip-off, police launched an operation to nab a rhino poacher who was allegedly involved in the recent killing of a one horned Rhino in Kaziranga National Park.

“ After seeing our search party. They did not listen to us and started firing. Our side also returned the fire,” Superintendent of Police Sumeet Sharma told reporters. “While being taken to a hospital, he died before reaching the hospital. A pistol was seized from him,” Sharma added.

A carcass of an adult female rhino with its horn missing was found inside Kaziranga National Park on January 20.

In the other incident, one alleged dacoit suffered bullet injuries after being shot at by the police in Cachar district on Wednesday night, police said.
