Assam: Congress suspends two MLAs for disobeying party whip in RS polls

The Opposition has demanded the cancellation of votes of three MLAs of the ruling party accusing them of violating the election rules.

Guwahati: Congress has suspended two of its MLAs in Assam Sashi Kanta Das and Siddique Ahmed for disobeying the party whip as the party alleged that they have cross voted.

Meanwhile, the counting of votes from the two Rajya Sabha seats in Assam is underway.

The Opposition has demanded the cancellation of votes of three MLAs of the ruling party accusing them of violating the election rules.

The opposition has named Hitendra Nath Goswami (from BJP), Ganesh Kumar Limbu (from BJP) and Durga Das Boro of BPF in three separate complaints filed to the returning officer.

The ruling BJP has nominated Pabitra Margherita for one seat and left the other for ally United Peoples Party Liberal’s Rwngwra Narzary.

A lawmaker each from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI (M) and Raijor Dal are supporting Congress nominee Ripun Bora.
