New Delhi:  Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday called upon the people to report to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption if any state government employee demands bribe.

Talking to reporters at the Assam House here, Sarma said, “The state’s Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing has stepped up its effort to weed out ‘corruption’. I appeal to the public if someone asks for bribe, do not refuse. Inform us about the exact time and place and we will act upon it swiftly.”

He also claimed that with ‘digitalisation’ of governance in the last one year in the state, including driving licence and registration certificate, people’s faith has been restored in the government.

On being asked about the bandh call by banned outfits on the Independence Day, the CM categorically said that banned organisations always call for bandh or boycott Independence Day every year.

He said that the bandh would have no impact and the day would pass off peacefully as ‘the enthusiasm of the people is too high’ with the country commemorating its 75th year of Independence.
