Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on Monday demanded immediate suspension of the DC, Changlang and EAC, Diyun for allegedly issuing ‘residential proof certificate’ (RPC) to more than 500 Chakma-Hajong refugees in the southern Arunachal district.

The apex students’ body further demanded that the Bordumsa-Diyun MLA should be stripped of all the benefits enjoyed as people’s representative for allegedly conspiring against the indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh, and all the RPCs issued to the Chakma-Hajong refugees and illegal migrants till date should be cancelled immediately.

In this regard, the AAPSU has served a 15-day deadline to the State Government to fulfill its charter of demands, failing which it threatened to launch an indefinite strike which may be a statewide bandh.

The AAPSU while calling for immediate cancellation of the RPCs, also demanded constitution of an enquiry committee to investigate further involvement of officials for issuance of the RPC and stated that atleast two members of the AAPSU should be included in the committee.

In a representation submitted to the Chief Minister’s Office, the AAPSU said: “If our demands are not met within this time frame, we will launch an indefinite bandh call. In the interest of indigenous people we are ready to go to any extent,” AAPSU president Dozi Tana Tara said at a press conference here.

Dozi informed that a fact-finding committee was formed by AAPSU to investigate this issue and was sent to Diyun recently which found that more than 500 RPCs were issued to Chakma and Hajong refugees for education and job purposes. “Why would they need RPC when they already have the Refugee Card? Today they have been issued RPC, tomorrow they will take it to the court to seek citizenship,” he pointed out.

He called the episode “a conspiracy” against indigenous population of the state. “These officers come from outside and hurt our indigenous sentiment. Our indigenous population is under threat now. This episode has pained us a lot. We will not tolerate it. They have to be given exemplary punishment,” the student leader stated.

The AAPSU also demanded termination of services of one Robin Chakma, who is working as an LDC in the office of EAC, Diyun. “He needs to be arrested as well for being a part of the conspiracy,” Dozi demanded.

He blamed Bordumsa-Diyun MLA Samlung Mossang “for all these erroneous activities”, claiming that he had instructed the issuance of the RPC as well as induction of the Chakma LDC in the Diyun EAC office. He demanded that the MLA should surrender all the privileges that he seeks as a public representative within 15 days. Calling all the persons involved to be traitors, Dozi also said that they should be booked under the NSA.
