Arunachal police recover Rs 1.28 cr worth high purity heroin, arrest peddler

Itanagar: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Arunachal Pradesh Police, in the biggest ever synthetic drugs haul, busted an inter-state drug cartel active on the Banderdewa-Guwahati-Moreh axis and recovered 651.25 grams of high purity heroin worth Rs 1.28 crore. 

The sleuths also nabbed a hoarder and peddler based in Assam’s Guwahati, a senior police officer said on Monday.

Claiming to have affected the biggest ever synthetic narcotics recovery, in market value terms, in APP history, SP (SIT) Rohit Rajbir Singh said, the SIT broke its own record, set earlier this year, which was the highest ever before this operation that resulted in total recovery of 651.25 grams of high purity Heroin (tested by NCB field kit), with current market valuation of 1.28 crore.

He said, “Sustained investigation and follow-up for more than a year by SIT, in Crime Branch PS Case No. 01/2021 u/s 22(c)/27(a)/27A NDPS Act, led to this success.”

He added that the Guwahati-based hoarder and peddler Hemchandra Barman, a resident of Assam’s Nalbari was apprehended.

“Further investigation is on”, the SP said.

Acknowledging the “wonderful assistance provided by CMCU, and the Executive Magistrate on ground”, theSP said, the SIT profusely offers gratitude to DGP for guidance, and IGP (Law and Order) and IG (Crime) for their constant motivation for the feat.
