New Delhi: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday heaped praise on the Pema Khandu-led BJP government in Arunachal Pradesh for taking initiative for wildlife conservation through ‘Airgun Surrender Abhiyan’.

“Airgun Surrender Abhiyan initiated by Arunachal Pradesh government is bringing transformational change among the people to conserve the treasure of beautiful birds,” Rijiju, who represents Arunachal West Parliamentary constituency, said in a tweet.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly radio programme, ‘Mann Ki Baat’, mentioned the unique programme being run by the Arunachal Pradesh government to stop indiscriminate hunting of birds and lauded the Khandu government.

He said under the Airgun Surrender Abhiyaan over 1600 airguns were voluntarily surrendered by the people in the frontier state.

Arunachal Pradesh Forest Minister Mama Natung, who has been spearheading the campaign to save wild animals, said PM’s appreciation was a big moral boost for the state government and added that it was possible under the leadership of the Chief Minister as well as ‘Team Arunachal’.
