Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pawan Kumar Sain has reviewed the ongoing progress on Special Summary Revision of Electoral Roll with January 1, 2024 as the qualifying date, First Level Checking (FLC) of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), and poll preparedness.

The CEO, under the guidance of Election Commission of India (ECI), convened a video conference session on Tuesday to take stock of the ongoing electioneering processes. “All District Election Officers, excepting DEOs of a few districts where FLC process is in hand and districts with poor network connectivity, participated in the conference and presented their PPTs,” stated a press release from Deputy CEO Shania Kayem Mize on Wednesday.

During the virtual meet, the CEO also encouraged all DEOs and election functionaries to “be diligent and aim to receive the best election practice recognitions for their meticulous actions”.

ECI Secretary NT Bhutia, who observed the whole session, stressed on ‘total’ removal of discrepancies in EPIC (electoral photo identity cards), physical verification of polling station locations, provisions of Assured Minimum Facilities in all polling stations, removal of multiple entries, including PSEs (photo similar entries) and DSEs (demographic similar entries) in the electoral rolls, with due consultation with the representatives of all political parties. He also urged the State to ensure that criminal cases related to elections are resolved at the earliest.

Besides calling for making the district contact numbers and the voter helpline 1950 functional, the ECI Secretary urged that tranquility and vigilance are to be maintained in border areas (both inter-state and international borders) in view of upcoming elections.

Joint CEO Liken Koyu has earlier delivered the keynote address and gave a PowerPoint presentation on the status of electoral rolls’ special summary revision and poll preparedness. The participating DEOs also shared the issues and bottlenecks faced by their respective districts.
