Imphal: The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Association (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild of Manipur (EGM) has revoked the ban on publication of civic action programme and news of achievements of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Rapid Action Force (RPF), as per a joint press note issued by the two media bodies on October 15.
The decision follows a meeting held on October 13 between Group Centre Langjinng, CRPF, DIG PK Nair, AMWJU, EGM, editors and members of the media fraternity who were victims of the high-handedness of the two central forces.
In the meeting, DIG Nair expressed regret for the incidents and apologized for the same and assured those present to see to it that such incidents do not take place in future. He also suggested ways and means to maintain a cordial relationship between the media and CRPF.
The decision to impose the ban on the publication of civic action programme and news of achievements of CRPF and RAF was taken on June 20 by AMWJU and EGM following physical assaults on members of the state’s media by the two central police forces.
