Shilong: Akashvani Shillong successfully organised a 5-km run in the city today to commemorate 90 years of its service in public broadcasting.
The run drew enthusiastic participation from runners, including students from different schools and colleges, and fitness enthusiasts. The aim behind the initiative was to promote fitness and community participation while celebrating Akashvani’s nine-decade-long contribution to broadcasting.
The event was flagged off by H. Diengdoh, Cluster Head, Akashvani Shillong in the presence of senior officials and staff of the Shillong station. The marathon commenced at 6:00 am from the premises of Akashvani Shillong in Bomfyle Road. Speaking on the occasion, he welcomed the runners to celebrate 90 years of the public broadcaster and briefed them on the checkpoints as well as the rules.
The 5-km run began from passed through DIPR, DTO, MPSC Building, Barik Point, Civil Hospital Point, City Hut Dhaba towards Little Blossom School, moved through Hotel Polo Tower, Majestic Hotel, National People’s Party Office, State Convention Centre and concluded at the Akashvani Shillong premises.
All participants were awarded with a certificate while winners in all the four categories received medals along with certificates.
Comprehensive arrangements for security, medical support, hydration facilities, and traffic management were made in coordination with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District to ensure smooth conduct of the run.
Similar events, marathons and walkathons are being organised across Akashvani’s extensive nationwide network, ensuring widespread public engagement and outreach during the 90-year celebrations.
