Meghalaya CM has to quarantine, says Health Minister

Shillong: Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek on Monday said Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who had visited Guwahati for the swearing-in ceremony of Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, would have to get tested and stay in quarantine after his return to the State Capital.

The Chief Minister, who has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, cited revised protocols for entry, under which he and others who are vaccinated, except those coming from COVID-19 hot-spot states are exempted from any test.

Sangma was scheduled to hold a cabinet meeting this evening, but cancelled the meeting and rushed to Guwahati to attend the swearing in ceremony. The Cabinet meeting would be convened on Tuesday.

“Anyone who comes from outside the state has to undergo RT-PCR test and would also have to mandatorily be under quarantine as per the health department’s guidelines,” Hek told

reporters after inspecting the COVID-19 treatment facilities at athe Shillong Civil Hospital here.

On the other hand, quoting the revised protocols of entry points issued by the Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare, Chief Minister Sangma pointed out that personsentering the State, who have valid final certificates of vaccination would be exempted from testing.

The revised notification specified that persons coming from Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Karnataka and Kerala would not be exempted from testing even if they possess valid final certificates of vaccination.

The Chief Minister had already received both the doses of the vaccine against COVID-19.
