Pherzawl: Pherzawl district celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour, with the celebrations highlighting peace, development and public welfare. .
Deputy Commissioner Anunay Anand, IAS, hoisted the National Flag and took the salute from parade contingents led by SDPO Parbung Jangkholen Haokip. The Deputy Commissioner’s address in both English and fluent Hmar drew appreciation from local residents.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner called for effective implementation of the VB-G RAM G scheme, DC urged village chiefs, VA chairmen and members to utilise the increased provision of 125 employment days at a daily wage of Rs 300 for community development works. He specifically highlighted water conservation, drainage and road construction.
The DC also drew attention to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), stating that more than 8,000 electoral records in the district require correction. He appealed to electors to attend SDO hearings and submit the required documents before the September 2 deadline. He also sought public cooperation in addressing inter-connectivity issues in the Vangai Range, with hearings to be held at Patpuihmun, Ankhasuo, Phulpui and other villages.
The DC also highlighted the availability of birth certificate services at Parbung CHC, Senvon, Sibapurikhal PHC and PHSC. He also urged residents to cooperate with the forthcoming Census, being conducted after a gap of 15 years.
On healthcare, he highlighted improved services, including an X-ray technician, ambulance driver and mobile medical units for remote areas, while appreciating healthcare workers for their dedicated service. He further encouraged greater use of banking facilities at Parbung and Senvon to strengthen local banking services, acknowledging the contributions of SBI Parbung and PNB Senvon managers.
The celebration also honoured 34 government employees with certificates of appreciation. Senior officials, including SP T. Lalboi Haokip, Special AIG (Housing) Lunkhomang Khongsai, ADC/ADM Zousanglur Joute and several DLOs, along with village chiefs, local representatives and residents, attended the programme. Independence Day celebrations were held at the sub-divisional headquarters as well.
Exhibition stalls by different departments added to the celebrations, which concluded with cultural performances and a football match, bringing the day to a festive close.
