Imphal: In view of intelligence inputs indicating potential attempts by inimical elements to disrupt peace ahead of Independence Day celebrations, Assam Rifles has stepped up operational vigilance and local outreach across the border districts of Tengnoupal and Chandel in Manipur. Combining joint inter-agency operational presence with active civil-military cooperation, the security forces executed comprehensive area domination and security coordination initiatives on 10 and 11 August 2026 to ensure stability and public safety.
The security drive commenced on 10 August 2026 in Tengnoupal district, where Assam Rifles, in close coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF) and Manipur Police, conducted a Joint Area Domination Patrol. The multi-agency operation targeted vulnerable areas and approach routes to maintain heightened alertness, enhance situational awareness and deter security threats. Personnel executed the patrol with high operational readiness, maintaining continuous surveillance along critical routes. The joint deployment not only strengthened inter-agency synergy and mutual responsiveness among the participating forces, but also provided visible reassurance to the local population, reinforcing confidence in the regional security framework.
Building on these operational measures, Assam Rifles convened a crucial Security and Coordination Meeting at Sehlon in Chandel district on 11 August 2026. The meeting brought together Village Chiefs, Village Secretaries and representatives from civil society organisations to address emerging security challenges. Key deliberations centered on the volatile situation in Myanmar and its security ramifications along the Indian border, progress on the border fence construction and regulation at designated crossing points. Assam Rifles personnel urged community leaders to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements promptly. Expressing full support, local leaders committed to strengthening liaison with security forces, discouraging unlawful activities and sharing actionable intelligence to safeguard peace.
Together, these proactive operational deployments in Tengnoupal district and collaborative civil interactions in Chandel district highlight a unified effort to fortify border security, foster mutual trust and guarantee a safe environment across Manipur ahead of the national celebrations.
