37-Day theatre education programme concludes in Imphal

The Minister urged collective efforts to revive Manipur's culture and other sectors affected by the ongoing crisis.

Imphal: The closing function of the 37-Day Theatre Education Programme under the theme “Theatre for Generation Change” was held today at the Auditorium of DIPR, Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal. The programme was organised by the Manipuri Theatre Academy (MATA), Wangoi, Imphal West, in collaboration with the Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur, with support from the Forest Department, Government of Manipur, and the Zonal Education Office (ZEO), Wangoi.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Minister for Art & Culture and Tourism, Kh. Loken Singh said that culture is an integral part of education and that discipline is essential for preserving and promoting it. He stressed that the students participating in the programme should realise the importance of discipline in both their personal lives and artistic pursuits.

Referring to the ongoing crisis in the State over the past three years, the Minister observed that it has adversely affected various sectors. He called upon everyone to work collectively towards reviving not only the rich culture of the State but also all other sectors that have suffered setbacks due to the conflict.

Kh. Loken Singh also announced that the Government has approved the construction of a theatre for the Wangoi Dramatic Union and assured that the project would be taken up at the earliest.

Certificates were distributed to the students and mentors who participated in the 37-day theatre education programme. The function also featured dance performances by the participants.

Longjam Joykumar Singh, Chief Conservator, Forest Department, Government of Manipur; G. Dharmadas Sharma, Joint Director, Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur; and Arambam Anilkumar, MES, ZEO, Wangoi, Imphal West, also attended the programme, among others.
