Tengnoupal: In a massive stride toward environmental stewardship, the Tengnoupal Forest Division has successfully planted 58,900 saplings out of its ambitious target of 1.10 lakh saplings during the ongoing, week-long Van Mahotsav 2026 celebrations. The division confirmed that the plantation drives will aggressively continue across the district until the final milestone is achieved.
As part of today’s itinerary, a major plantation programme was conducted at Saivom Village under the leadership of Mahamuda Begum,IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), Tengnoupal Forest Division. The event saw a strong, inclusive turnout, including Saivom Village Chief Ating Christina Haokip; Avei Haokip, Headmistress of Saivom Model Primary School; local village authorities, residents, womenfolk, and representatives from the Naomi Village Level Federation (VLF) and Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK), alongside Forest Department officials.
Since its launch on July 1, the week-long afforestation campaign has rapidly expanded to vital locations across the district. Heavy community participation has been recorded at plantation sites including Maojang Village, D. Zalenbung Village, 36 Assam Rifles, 3 Assam Rifles, Khudei Laipham Village, Tengnoupal Headquarters, Saivom Village, Sita Village, Aimol Village, Laiching Village, Khangsim Village, Angbrasu Village, Khoibu Village, Thamlai Village, and Heinoukhong Village. The movement has united diverse sectors, drawing active support from the District Administration, District Police, Village Chiefs, local Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and students.
To foster a culture of domestic and institutional planting, the Forest Division has also been distributing saplings free of cost to the general public at respective Forest Ranges throughout the week, urging households and local organisations to step up and expand the region’s green canopy.
Highlighting the vision behind the drive, The Division noted that the success of the campaign so far reflects a deep, evolving public awareness. They stressed that the true essence of Van Mahotsav extends far beyond the act of putting saplings in the dirt—it hinges entirely on ensuring their long-term protection, nurturing, and ultimate survival through active, sustained community ownership.
Incentive Awards & State Nominations Announced to honor this collective spirit, the Tengnoupal Forest Division has announced that outstanding individuals, Village Authority Chiefs/Chairman,CSOs,NGOs and participating organisations will be recognized with Incentive Awards at the District Level for successful plantation and survival rates. Furthermore, the most exemplary performers from the district will be officially nominated for prestigious State-Level Awards.

educational institutions, and citizens whose unwavering support has powered this campaign, and reaffirms its long-term dedication to promoting sustainable forest management across Tengnoupal District.
