Churachandpur: The District Administration organised the district-level Jan Sammelan-cum-Launch Event of the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM-G) at the District Panchayat Resource Centre, Mini-Secretariat Campus today. The event was organized by the District Programme Coordinator (VB-G RAM-G) in collaboration with the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Churachandpur,

The programme marked the district-level rollout of the nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening rural employment and livelihood opportunities under the MGNREGS framework.

The event was coordinated by Jameson Sehlal Hangsing, Project Director, DRDA, and District Programme Coordinator (MGNREGS). Programme Officers, Block Development Officers (BDOs), village chiefs, village secretaries, and beneficiaries attended the launch.

Describing the occasion as a “historic moment,” Deputy Commissioner Shri Krishna Kumar, IAS, said the Act prioritises works under four key domains: water-related projects to enhance water security; core rural infrastructure development; livelihood-related infrastructure to promote sustainable employment; and special works to mitigate the impact of extreme weather events and strengthen disaster preparedness.

He further stated that the Act provides for an aggregated 60-day pause during peak sowing and harvesting seasons to ensure the availability of agricultural labour without affecting the 125-day employment entitlement.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised that planning and implementation of works would be carried out through the village authorities and urged them to prioritise projects within their respective jurisdictions.

“All works will be geotagged, documented through video and photographs, and uploaded to the designated portal,” he said, while calling for coordinated support from all concerned departments to ensure effective implementation of the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Thangboi Gangte, ADC, Mualnuam, and in-charge BDO, Lamka South, said the daily wage under the scheme has been enhanced to ₹300. He also noted that the guaranteed employment period has been increased from 100 days to 125 days, adding that the initiative seeks to improve income security, strengthen transparency and accountability, and integrate rural employment with infrastructure development and climate resilience.

The participants also viewed the official inaugural session of the programme through a live webcast, coinciding with the national launch held earlier in the day at Mukkavaripalli village in Obulavaripalle Mandal of Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati district.
