Shillong: The Inter-Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC) Meeting, convened by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Shillong and hosted by Akashvani Shillong, was held today to strengthen coordination among government departments, media units and public sector organizations.
The meeting brought together representatives from Akashvani Shillong, Doordarshan Kendra Shillong, Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Census Department, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Telecom Department, North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Shillong, North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH), North Eastern Service, Soil & Water Conservation Department, Spices Board, Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) Shillong and other stakeholder organisations.
Officials from Akashvani Shillong welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of coordinated communication in enhancing public awareness of government programmes.
During the meeting, participating organisations shared updates on their activities, outreach initiatives and communication challenges, particularly in reaching citizens in remote and rural areas. The Census Department briefed members on preparations for the forthcoming Census exercise, while NIFT Shillong highlighted upcoming programmes, including student-oriented workshops and National Handloom Day celebrations.
Representatives from Doordarshan Kendra Shillong outlined the broadcaster’s news, current affairs and special programming initiatives, including its growing digital and social media presence. The meeting also discussed innovative outreach initiatives such as Doordarshan’s “Creators Corner” programme, which seeks to engage local content creators in producing developmental content for wider dissemination.
The India Meteorological Department showcased its weather forecasting services, warning systems and public information platforms, stressing the need for greater awareness of weather advisories and early warning systems through social media. NECTAR highlighted its technology-driven initiatives supporting sustainable development and livelihoods across the North Eastern Region and emphasized the importance of effective communication to enhance public awareness of developmental interventions.
The Soil & Water Conservation Department shared updates on watershed development, post-harvest and other farmer-centric schemes, while representatives from the Telecom Department briefed participants on connectivity initiatives and awareness campaigns under the Sanchar Saathi platform aimed at promoting safe and secure telecom services. Participants also discussed challenges in disseminating information in rural areas and underscored the need for greater collaboration among departments and media units.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on strengthening coordination, increasing the use of both traditional and digital communication platforms, and proactively sharing information to ensure wider public awareness of government schemes, services and developmental initiatives.
The IMPCC, constituted by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, serves as a platform for coordination among government departments, public sector organisations and media units to facilitate effective dissemination of information on government policies, programmes and initiatives.
