Kakching: Kakching district joined the rest of the country today in observing the 12th International Yoga Day at various locations under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”.
This year’s theme is intended to help people focus on not only lifespan but also on ‘healthspan’, which is the period of life spent in good health. The programmes highlighted the role of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and healthy living.
As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah campaign, International Yoga Day programme was organised in co-ordination with Integrated Rehabilitation Centres for Addicts (IRCAs) in Kakching district by the Kha Manipur Yoga and Nature Cure Association. The event was held under the supervision of District Social Welfare Office, Kakching.
The occasion was also observed with yoga sessions at HFAO Thambal Children Home for Girls; Arong Khunou, BDS Children Home for Girls, Keirak; Morning Star Children Home for Boys, Keirak; Kulla & Ibelei Girls Children Home, Pallel; Ibeningthou Ningsing Shanglen Open Shelter for Girls, Keirak; HRRUO Open Shelter for Boys, Pallel with yoga session under the aegis of the District Child Protection Unit, Kakching.
The observance was also held at Chonokom Ground, Umathel under the joint initiative of Primary Health Centre (PHC) Kakching Khunou and the Umathel Police Outpost. Yoga sessions were also conducted at Community Health Centre (CHC) Kakching, PHC Kakching Khunou and AAM Irengband, with participants taking part in activities promoting yoga.
International Yoga Day was also observed at various schools across Kakching district under the aegis of the Zonal Education Office (ZEO), Kakching, with students and teachers participating in yoga sessions.
Meanwhile, Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Kakching, in collaboration with Kakching Khunou Police Outpost and PHC Kakching Khunou, also organised Yoga Day. Similar programmes were held at several other locations across the district.
International Day of Yoga is observed annually on June 21 following its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, with the first observance held in 2015.
