Kakching: The National Sports Day – 2026, under the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat” was observed across the schools in Kakching district to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The day is being observed as a three-day nationwide campaign from 28 to 30 August, 2026.
Under the supervision of the District Administration Kakching, the National Sports Day is being organised by the Zonal Education Office (Kakching) at the various schools and to encourage people of all ages to embrace sports and physical activity as an essential part of a healthy lifestyle.
Students at their respective schools paid floral tributes to the portrait of Major Dhyan Chand, honouring his contribution to the Indian hockey and sports; whose extraordinary contribution to the Indian hockey earned him the title “The Wizard of Hockey.”
As a part of the observance, various games and sports events were also organised to encourage students’ participation in physical activities and to promote sportsmanship.
During the events, the school authorities reminded the students that sports is not only about competition and medals, but also about health, confidence, discipline, respect for rules, time management, dealing with success & failure and teamwork – learning to work with others. As part of the event, pledge-taking ceremonies were also conducted at the schools.
The schools which observed the National Sports Day – 2026 in the district also included PR School, PM Kakching Khunou High School, Hawairou Primary School, Pallel Junior High School, Elangkhanpokpi Junior High School, Keirak Upper Primary School, Kakching Khunou Makha High School, Martin Grammar School, Grace Reach Academy, Hiyanglam, Grace Cottage Cultural & Educational Development Foundation, Pallel High School, Irengband Upper Primary School and Sugnu Higher Secondary School, among others.
