Kangpokpi: Assam Rifles evacuated and provided life-saving treatment to a critically ill village chief from Kangpokpi on 15 June 2026. The emergency operation was launched after village authorities sent a distress call seeking urgent medical help for a resident. Due to the prevailing internal security situation and difficult terrain, timely access to advanced healthcare was a major challenge for the locals.
Responding to the call, a team of Assam Rifles personnel mobilised a unit ambulance under necessary security arrangements. The team safely evacuated the patient from the remote village. He was suffering from severe breathlessness, a persistent fever for over a week, chronic cough and significant physical weakness.
The patient was shifted to the Keithelmanbi Garrison Hospital in Kangpokpi district. Medical examinations and diagnostic blood tests revealed that he was suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease complicated by severe sepsis, which is a life-threatening condition. The medical team immediately started emergency resuscitative measures, including oxygen support, nebulisation, injectable hydrocortisone and broad-spectrum antibiotics.
The timely intervention successfully stabilised the patient and he was later referred to a higher medical centre for specialised management. Following the operation, the local community and village authorities expressed their gratitude to the medical staff and personnel for their swift response. This humanitarian initiative helped bridge critical healthcare gaps in the remote area and saved a human life.
