Shillong: Based on the test result of pig samples received from ICAR-National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) Bhopal, the Government of Meghalaya has declared a few villages in both East and West Khasi Hills districts as ‘epicentres’ of African Swine Fever disease.
The villages are Mawlai Nongkwar, Pig Farm Nongpyiur, Thangsning, Kseh Pyndeng, Nongkseh and Lygkyrdem in East Khasi Hills District; Raitong, Umran Dairy and Patarim in Ri Bhoi District and Pig Farm Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills District.
As per the National Action Plan for control, containment and eradication of African Swine Fever prepared by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, the restrictions are applicable with immediate effect in the villages under 1 (one) km radius surrounding infected premises (epicenter of disease) designated as “Infected Zone” and in all villages falling under 10 km radius surrounding infected premises (epicenter of disease) designated as “Surveillance Zone”, said a press note from the Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, A.H & Veterinary Department.
