Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand inspected various development projects in Heirok

The Chief Minister instructed the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) to blacktop the 6-kilometer-long road connecting the campus with the National Highway 102, Imphal-Moreh Road. He also assured the officials to construct walls, drains and footpaths inside the campus.

Thoubal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today inspected the proposed extension campus of the Manipur Technical University (MTU) at Heirok, Thoubal district. He was accompanied by Heirok constituency MLA, Thokchom Radhesyham Singh, Vice Chancellor of MTU, Prof. W Chandbabu Singh and Commissioner (Education), Ningthoujam Geoffrey.

The site was earlier constructed to house the Heirok Engineering College under MTU, but it was later decided to convert into an extension campus of the MTU.

During the inspection, the Chief Minister instructed the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) to blacktop the 6-kilometer-long road connecting the campus with the National Highway 102, Imphal-Moreh Road. He also assured the officials to construct walls, drains and footpaths inside the campus.

Khemchand Singh inspected the newly constructed buildings and inquired about any assistance required from the government. The Vice Chancellor of MTU told the Chief Minister that they want to start some classes in the extension campus from this academic session starting from July-August.

The Chief Minister also took note of the drinking water issues and power supply. He assured the local MLA that he will soon improve both power supply and drinking water supply in the area.

 The Chief Minister also visited the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of Thoubal district, which was temporarily functioning from a state government building. He interacted with the teachers and students of the school and also planted trees at the school campus.

Khemchand Singh then visited the Community Health Center at Heirok and reviewed facilities and services being provided to the local people. He spoke with the doctors in the CHC and assured them to improve the existing infrastructures.

Later, he visited the Women’s Market at Heirok and inspected the market sheds. During the visit, villagers of Heirok greeted the Chief Minister by standing on both sides of the road. They waved their hands as the Chief Minister’s carcade passed through their localities.

The main purpose of the visit is to review the work progress and status of the projects, to enhance the infrastructure and improve the service delivery to the public.
