Imphal: Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), organised medical and dental camps across the remote villages of Kangpat Khullen, Kongkhan, Aishi, Chassad and Kamjong in Manipur. The initiative was aimed at delivering essential healthcare services to residents in geographically isolated areas where access to medical facilities remains limited.
A dedicated team of medical and dental officers, supported by paramedical staff, provided comprehensive health check-ups, conducted basic diagnostic tests and offered dental consultations. Free medicines were distributed to all beneficiaries, ensuring timely treatment and relief. In addition, interactive awareness sessions on personal hygiene, oral health and preventive healthcare were conducted, equipping villagers with knowledge and practices to safeguard their well-being long after the camps concluded.
The outreach witnessed enthusiastic participation from the local residents and directly benefitted over 220 civilians, including 52 children, 94 women and 83 men. By addressing pressing healthcare needs and fostering a culture of trust, the initiative strengthened the bond between Assam Rifles and the local community.
In the current context of Kamjong District, where social and infrastructural challenges are compounded by communal tensions, such impartial humanitarian efforts have had a profound impact. The camps not only provided immediate medical relief but also reaffirmed the role of Assam Rifles as dependable partners in the welfare of the hill communities, living up to their ethos as the “Friends of the Hill People”.
