Imphal: On 02 May 2026, Assam Rifles paid solemn tribute to Havildar John Famhoite of the 17 Assam Regiment, who was laid to rest with full military honours at Rengkai, Churachandpur. The ceremonial last rites were conducted with utmost dignity and reverence, reflecting the nation’s deep respect and gratitude for his dedicated service and supreme sacrifice.
Officials and troops, together with around 25 veterans, family members, ex-servicemen and local residents, gathered in an atmosphere of profound emotion and patriotism to bid a final farewell. The presence of veterans from the region added significance to the occasion, symbolising unity, camaraderie and enduring respect for the armed forces. A wreath was laid on behalf of all ranks by the Sector Commander, Assam Rifles, Churachandpur, honouring the departed soldier and expressing heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
The tribute served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the brave men and women in uniform in service of the nation. Assam Rifles reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to honouring its soldiers, ensuring their legacy continues to inspire future generations. Havildar John Famhoite’s service and sacrifice will always be remembered with pride and gratitude.
