Imphal: Social worker Salam Santoshkumar Singh met renowned social activist Anna Hazare at Hazare’s residence in Maharashtra on Sunday, raising concerns over the prolonged crisis in Manipur.
During the meeting, Singh highlighted the hardships faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) who, he said, have been unable to return to their homes for nearly three years due to ongoing tensions in the state. He urged Hazare to use his moral influence to help restore peace and harmony in Manipur and facilitate the safe return of displaced families to their native places at the earliest.
Responding to the appeal, Hazare assured Singh that he would extend his support and do whatever possible to help promote peace and reconciliation in the conflict-hit state.
Later, addressing a press conference at Patrakar Bhavan in Pune, several prominent social and public figures expressed solidarity with the people of Manipur and voiced support for initiatives aimed at restoring peace in the region.
Among those present were Sanjay Nahar, founder of the Vande Mataram Organisation; Chandrakan Chanekar, founder of the Nationalist Movement of India; Ismail Mohad Sheikh; Dilip Singh Vishkrama Hribhau Ghanakar, president of the Vande Mataram Sangathan; Vinayak Rao Patil, Ulash Dada Pawar, Anant Darwatkar, and Ajit Abhiyankar, among others.
The speakers collectively expressed empathy for the displaced communities in Manipur and pledged their support toward efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the state.
