Imphal: Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the newly appointed Governor-designate of Manipur, arrived in Imphal on Thursday. The former Union Home Secretary landed at Imphal International Airport on an IndiGo Airlines flight at 1:10 PM. He was welcomed by Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, and other senior officials.
Bhalla is set to be sworn in as the Governor of Manipur at the Raj Bhavan, with the oath to be administered by Justice D. Krishnakumar, Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court.
Upon reaching the Raj Bhavan, Bhalla was greeted by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, along with his ministerial colleagues and other officials.
Anusuiya Uikey was the last full-time Governor of Manipur. Since July 2023, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya had been holding additional charge of the state, which has faced significant unrest. Bhalla’s appointment as Governor was announced on December 24, 2024.
