Shillong: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, Regional Office, (MT Region), Shillong organized a two-day Photo Exhibition & Outreach Activity on Freedom Fighters of Northeast and Nutrition at Ramakrishna Mission Higher Secondary School, Mylliem.
The exhibition showcased the freedom struggle of India through a series of photo exhibits. The Outreach programme is also aimed at promoting good nutrition behaviour and highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to combat malnutrition by promoting good nutrition practices.
DHEO, East Khasi Hills O Summer in her speech gave a detailed description of the value-based traditional food for physical growth, brain development and combating anaemia. She laid stress on the enhancement of macro and micronutrients and qualitative food intake. She also stressed the relativity of food to various lifestyle diseases and the method of eating right.
Icydora Nongrum, Principal of the school expressed her gratitude towards CBC, Shillong for organizing the exhibition and said that this will go a long way in educating the people, and the students in particular, about the supreme sacrifice made by our Freedom Fighters for the cause of the motherland.
She further said that through the photo panels displayed in this exhibition, students can learn about the unsung heroes of the Northeast whose contribution to Independent India had been immense.
Speaking about nutrition, she exhorted all the students to maintain a balanced diet and to ensure to consume at least 5 food groups in a day which includes carbohydrates, proteins, pulses, dairy products, vegetables/green leafy vegetables.
Various competitions were organised among the students of the School during the two-day event. The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation in the quiz, singing and art competition. Prizes were distributed among the winners during the valedictory function held today.
