Imphal: Okendra Singh Khumukcham, Regional Manager, State Bank of India (SBI), Imphal along with one official called on the Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Thursday and appraised her about the steps taken up by the bank to extend assistance to the violence affected, displaced people staying in relief camps in the State.
He said, SBI has started the distribution of loans under the One Family One Livelihood scheme of the State Government and identification for providing further assistance to the violence-affected families has also been conducted with the help of district administrations. Staff have been deputed and sent to the relief camps to collect mobile numbers, Aadhaar cards etc. for customers who have lost bank documents to re-enact it.
SBI donated Rs.25 lakhs to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and it has been trying to provide all possible assistance further to the displaced people in relief camps. They thanked the Governor for her efforts to extend assistance to the displaced people and for the restoration of peace and normalcy in the State.
The Governor asked the banker to provide all possible assistance to the displaced people staying in relief camps both in the hills and valley. She appreciated the banker for their announcement of a 12-month moratorium on interest payments for loans taken by its customers in Manipur. Loans under PM MUDRA, Start-Ups etc. should be provided so that the displaced people can at least start their own business for sustainability and income generation, she added.
A team of India Post led by Lukhram Radheshyam Singh, Postmaster, along with five others also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan and apprised about the initiative taken up by India Post for the displaced people staying in relief camps in the State. The team informed the Governor about the difficulties/inconveniences faced in the delivery of mail/dak in many places in the prevailing situation and their efforts to deliver it in the best interest of the people. They said re-enactment of India Post Payment Bank passbooks has been started for those who have lost or burnt it.
Governor while asking them to visit relief camps and enquire about the requirements of India Post to the displaced people, said all possible assistance should be extended to the displaced people after finding out their requirements.. She asked the team to write to the Deputy Commissioners so that the requirements and identity of those who need services of India Post can be ascertained and further steps can be taken up.
