Imphal: Five Members of Parliament of CPI & CPI(M) met Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Friday and discussed the unprecedented ethnic clash between two communities since May 3.
They expressed their apprehensive that unless the situation is brought under control in time, an uncontrollable communal flare-up cannot be ruled out which will adversely affect the nation in general and the whole North-Eastern States in particular.
All the Members of Parliament expressed that they will extend cooperation to all in whatever they can do from their side. Governor reiterated the appeal made by her to all sections of the society, especially to womenfolk to extend their fullest cooperation to the Security Personnel while discharging their responsibilities to restore peace in the State. The five MPs were John Brittas, Bikashranjan Bhattacharya, Santosh Kumar, Subba Rayan and Binoy Vishwan.
The Governor also visited a relief camp opened at Manipur Trade & Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong in Imphal West district and interacted with the displaced people.
Altogether 548 displaced people including 157 children from Kangpokpi, Kakching and Churachandpur districts are taking shelter in the camp. Governor heard the grievances and hardships faced by the people and assured them to extend all possible help at the earliest. Governor enquired about the facilities which are being provided to the people and directed the district administration to improve whatever is necessary.
After interacting with the people in the camp, and talking to media persons, the Governor said, she has come to enquire about the conditions of displaced people who are taking shelter in the camp.
She said some facilities which are being provided to the people are good while some other facilities like medicines, sanitation and cooling facilities need to be augmented. As an immediate relief to the people, a sum of Rs. 1000 will be given to each member of families in the camp on Monday.
It will take time to settle the ongoing issue and all out efforts are being made by the Central and State governments. Governor appealed to all stakeholders to come forward for talks in bringing normalcy and peace in the State as usual through peaceful and amicable dialogue.
