Imphal: The Manipur State Film Development Society, in association with the Film Forum Manipur, will observe Mami Numit on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at its complex.
On this day in 1972, ‘Matamgee Manipur’, the first Manipuri feature film, was officially released, and the Film Forum Manipur resolved to observe April 9 every year as the Mami Numit.
The simple observation cum celebration will also witness an entertainment programme to be held in the MSFDS courtyard after offering floral tribute at the memorial stone of the Manipur Cinema, said a statement issued by the Secretary of the Society.
It further informed that the 15th Manipur State Film Awards 2023, for films made in 2022, will be organised in May this year, after due process.
A seminar on film archiving and preservation will be organised by MSFDS, on the occasion of the 3rd Foundation of SN Chand Cine Archive & Museum, which was inaugurated by the Manipur Chief Minister on April 9, 2021. Three scholastic papers on film archiving and preservation will be presented by the Film Heritage Foundation, (Mumbai), the National Film Archive of India (Pune), and Manipuri film archivist Johnson Rajkumar.
