G20 Summit: Tripura aims to produce green hydrogen from bamboo

“We are working on renewable energy like solar, and biomass and now to embark on generating green hydrogen from bamboo. Tripura is generating 107 MW solar energy and set up 18 microgrid stations in rural hamlets - 274 microgrid stations are in the process,” Dr Saha said adding that under biomass around 2,500 families have been covered so far.

Agartala:Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday said the state would replicate the Vietnam model while contemplating producing green hydrogen using bamboo forclean energy.

Sharing the experience of hosting a two-day Science 2 Conference of G20, which began here on Monday, Dr Saha said during an interaction with the global experts it appeared that bamboo biomass energy has great potential to be an alternative to fossil fuel, which can be processed in thermal and biochemical conversion to produce different energy products (charcoal, syngas, and biofuels), which can be substitutions for existing fossil fuel.

Tripura is home to as many as 21 varieties of bamboo and has a huge potential to use them for producing clean energy and green hydrocarbon and G20 conference opened up the opportunity for the state, Dr Saha believed. He mentioned India has joined the global race to develop a green hydrogen economy to bolster its energy security under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India’s maiden green hydrogen policy has paved the way to move forward.

“The state would seek assistance from the Centre for the purpose, as the union budget has already allocated Rs 10,000 Cr for green hydrogen energy production. Science 2 Conference of G20 aims to explore innovative solutions from the scientists from across the globe to tackle climate change while providing access to clean energy sources,” CM said.

The delegates from China, Argentina, Russia, USA, UK, Brazil Australia, Indonesia, Korea, Morocco, Tanzania, and Ethiopia are participating in the G 20 conclave along with officials from the Ministry of External Affairs, Department of Science and Technology, NITI Ayog, Ministry of Finance, representatives of Principal Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister, and Research Institution dealing with clean and renewal energy attended the meeting.
