POCSO Act: Sensitization program held in Manipur’s Kakching district

Kakching: District Child Protection Unit, Kakching, Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with District Administration, Kakching Tuesday organized “One POCSO Act, 2012 & Child Marriage at NIC Conference Hall, DC Complex, Kakching.

The programme was presided by Deputy Commissioner, Kakching Somorjit Salam and attended by District Level Officers of Kakching district.

Sensitization programme, Mala Lisham, Programme Officer, SCPS, Social Welfare and Reena Chanu Moirangthem, Legal cum Probation Officer, DCPU, Kakching spoke on the topic  “JJ Act, 2015” and “POCSO Act, 2012 & Child Marriage” as resource persons respectively.

Deputy Commissioner, Somorjit Salam opined that maximum programme on “JJ Act, 2015” and “POCSO Act, 2012 & Child Marriage” should be organise in the district in order to create more Sensitization and awareness to the general public. He also urges the concerned department to organize such  programmes  covering the Students, ASHA workers, Self Help Groups etc.

Mala Lisham, Programme Officer, SCPS said that under the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015, Children were categorize as Children in need of Care and Protection (CNCP) and Child in Conflict with Law (CCL).

Children in need of Care and Protection were looked after by the Child Welfare Committee while Children in Conflict with Law were monitored by the Juvenile Justice Board. District Child Protection Unit under ICPS is an unit which is set up to coordinate and implement all child rights and protection activities at the district level. It ensures effective implementation of the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
