UCC Bill 2022 yet to be passed by Rajya Sabha: Meghalaya CM

The Chief Minister also informed the House that the central government has passed no such bill in the Rajya Sabha.

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday said a Private Member’s bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha demanding implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) throughout the country in 2022.

Replying to a query raised by opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) legislator Heavingstone Kharpran in the Assembly during the Question Hour, Sangma said the bill tabled by a private member is however in the list of pending bills and listed number 100.

The Chief Minister also informed the House that the central government has passed no such bill in the Rajya Sabha.

Kharpan wanted to know the state government’s stand on the passage of UCC in the Rajya Sabha on December 9, 2022.
