Mercury dips to seasons lowest in Srinagar at -3.6 Deg C

The tourist resort of Pahalgam remained the coldest place with minus 5.3 degree Celsius, a Meteorological Centre office said on Friday.

Srinagar: Unabated freezing cold continues to hunt Kashmir valley as Srinagar experienced seasons coldest night at minus 3.6 degree Celsius on Friday.

The tourist resort of Pahalgam remained the coldest place with minus 5.3 degree Celsius, a Meteorological Centre office said on Friday.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed the season’s coldest night on Friday with temperature dipped to minus 3.6 degree Celsius against the minus 3.2 degree Celsius the previous night. It was minus 2.6 degree Celsius below normal during this period of the season.

Earlier the minimum temperature had nose divided in Srinagar to minus 3.4 degree Celsius on December 5 and December 14 was recorded the lowest during this season.

Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir continues to remain the coldest place recording a low of minus 5.3 degree Celsius on Friday against minus 5.6 degree Celsius recorded a day ago. The temperature was minus 1.5 degree below normal during this period of the year.

Gulmarg in north Kashmir had a low of minus 2.5 degree Celsius against minus 3.0 degree Celsius recorded the previous night. It was 1.7 degree Celsius above normal for the valley of meadow during this period of the season.

Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded a low of minus 3.4 degree Celsius, Kukernag minus 2.1 degree Celsius and the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara had a low of minus 3.6 degree Celsius on Friday, the MeT office said.
