Imphal: Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) was observed on Monday in district headquarters in Manipur.
The Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is celebrated every year on October 31 to commemorate the birth anniversary of, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Home Minister of Independent India, who is often referred to as the Iron Man of India.
In Tengnoupal, the district administration observed Rastriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) at district headquarter, Machi and Moreh sub division Monday.
DC Tengnoupal, Ranjan Yumnam led in paying homage and garlanding to photograph of Sardar Vallabhai Patel. The gathering which includes DLOs, staff, students and public form human chain and read out Unity pledge at DC Office complex.
The DC also flagged off the Unity Run from the district headquarter and the run was also organised in Machi and Moreh sub- divisions. The Unity Run was participated by officers and staff of the district administration, police department, students of educational institutions including colleges and the public in the district.
In Thoubal, as part of the observation, Unity Run programme was held which was participated by the DC Thoubal, A. Subhash Singh; SP Thoubal, Jogeshchandra Haobijam; Manipur Police personnel; staff of different departments; volunteers of NYK Thoubal and students of various colleges. Human chain were also formed as part of the Observation.
In Pherzawl, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) was also observed with Unity Run in schools under ZEO Pherzawl.
On the occasion, ZEO Pherzawl district Hemchand Yumnam said Pherzawl District joined the rest of the state in observing the event. He added altogether 16 Schools in different parts of the district with a total of 850 participated in the Unity Run.
The Day was also observed in Bishnupur with DC Lourembam Bikram leading the gathering at the Conference Hall of Mini Secretariat complex in paying rich floral tributes at the portrait of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The DC also administered Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge to the participants comprising of DLOs and Staff of district administration.
Speaking on the occasion, Lourembam Bikram stated that the significance of the observation is to strengthen the nation’s unity and to promulgate the remarkable contributions of Sardar Patel in uniting India.
As part of the observance, the Nehru Yuva Kendra, Bishnupur in collaboration with CEO, Zilla Parishad and BDO/Eos of Municipal Councils also organized 40 Unity Runs in different villages of the district.
The District Administration, Churachandpur also observed the Rastriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) at Mini-Secretariat Campus, Churachandpur.
Several unity runs from different colleges and schools of Churachandpur, taking of pledge to dedicate oneself to preserving the unity, integrity, and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread this message among one’s fellow countrymen and formation of the human chain to show and to maintain the spirit of ‘Unity in Diversity among the people marked the observation.
Deputy Commissioner Kengoo Zuringla, officers and staffs today paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhai Patel on occasion of the National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebration at the DC Office Complex at a simple function organised by the District Administration Kangpokpi.
The celebration of 147th birth anniversary of Iron Man of India was also held at the Government offices and schools located within the district. On the other hand, the Transport Department organised ‘Run for Unity’ to celebrate the birth anniversary of India’s first Home Minister.
The main objective of the celebration of the day is to uplift the nation’s unity and spread awareness about Sardar Vallabhai Patel’s contribution to Indian History who played an important role in persuading many princely states to join the Union of India.
The National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was observed Monday at Kamjong DC Complex. Organised by the District Administration, Kamjong DC Shri Rangnamei Rang Peter led the officials and staff in paying floral tributes to the portrait of Sardar Vallabhai Patel, who is popularly known as the Iron Man of India.
Those who spoke at the simple gathering today spoke on the relentlesa efforts of Sardar Patel to integrate vast and diverse country like India into a United single nation.
