Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said Wednesday that his government has launched schemes to bridge the gap between the people, especially in rural areas.

Biren was speaking at S. Kholian (Thingkeu Village), Henglep Sub-division of Churachandpur district where he laid foundation stones for Amusement Cum Children Park to be constructed at Songpi Village at an estimated cost of Rs. 4.8 crore and Improvement/Upgradation of Henglep Thingkeu Tipaimukh Road (31.782 km) with a work order amount of Rs. 75.94 crore.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the construction of Henglep High School (6 Classrooms) at Henglep at a project cost of Rs. 57.28 lakh and the construction of Transit Quarter (for Medical and Education Staff) with a project cost of Rs. 73.67 lakh both under Backward Block Development Fund, North Eastern Council.

Cabinet meetings had been held at different district headquarters to review the progress of developmental works taken up in the areas, he added.

He said Churachandpur is the luckiest district as a medical college with 100 seats for the MBBS course had been established, recognizing the potential of the people of the district. He appealed to the public to refrain from organising or participating in bandhs and strikes to express their grievance and rather come up for talks to solve the issue. He further appealed to render support to Government’s initiatives to take up different projects for the development of the district.

Regarding the road development work at Tipaimukh Road (NH-150), N. Biren asked the NHIDCL Officials to make a proposal for widening the road into double land as the locals had agreed not to take land compensation. He also informed that an Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) would be constructed at the Henglep Headquarters citing its backwardness. Regarding the upgradation of the health centre and construction of a community hall at P. Sejol village, he said he would look into the matter.

Informing that Churachandpur District is also included among the seven districts where the Government is constructing amusement parks, he asked the people of the district to plan well and keep some lands reserved for taking up development works.

He further appealed to the public not to carry out deforestation for poppy plantations as it not only affects the environment but makes youths addicted to drugs. He instructed the Superintendent of Police to take up immediate action against those carrying out poppy plantations in the district.
