Imphal: A three-day awareness programme on the promotion of science education among tribal students of Senapati and Imphal East districts began at Mount Everest Higher Secondary School, Taphou, Senapati district on Thursday.
The programme which was inaugurated by Dr V Alexander Pao, Ex-MLA Karong Assembly constituency was organised by the Unique Trust under the sponsorship of NCSTC Division, Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Speaking on the occasion, Alexander Pao appreciated the Unique Trust for bringing such an awareness programme cum science exhibition, which he hoped would enlighten and provide more knowledge on science. He also appealed to conduct more such programmes from time to time which is beneficial to both students and teaching communities.
Th Kiranjit Meitei, President, Unique Trust said that the main objective of the programme was to highlight the importance of science to the tribal students, especially in remote areas, and to enable them to participate in the world of new technology as their future career.
The same programme will be conducted on Friday and Saturday at Kiyamgei Ideal High School, Kiyamgei, Imphal East under the sponsorship of NCSTC (Division), Ministry of Science and Technology.
During the programme, the Unique Trust organized various activities like Science exhibition and demonstration of various models of new technology on agriculture, cleanliness, smart housing etc. Mathematics puzzle, Mathematics talent hunt, on spot painting competition, quiz competition, essay competition and extempore speech were also conducted.
Apart from showing a documentary film on science and technology, the organizing committee also distributed prizes to winners and encourage the participating students.
