Agartala: After a break of one and half years, the council of ministers in a meeting on Tuesday has decided to release 5 percent Dearness Allowance (DA) to over 1.88 lakh government employees, pensioners, and their family members including 2956 daily rated and casual workers with effect from July.

With the announcement of a 5 percent DA for state government employees to compensate for the price inflation, the difference in DA payment between central and state government employees was reduced to 26 percent.

The BJP-led government in Tripura had for the first time released 3 percent DA to its employees and pensioners in February last year after a gap of four years.

The BJP came to power with the promise that all the employees will be given the 7th central pay commission but so far it could bring parity in basic only.

However, Information minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the Tripura government has to bear the burden of an additional Rs 523.8 Cr.

The cabinet has also decided to recruit 200 Junior Engineers including 100-degree level in state PWD in Grade-5(A) and Grade-5(B) of Tripura Engineers Service through the Tripura Public Service Commission.

Apart from that 100 Staff Nurses under the Health and Family Welfare department were recruited along with 22 posts of Pharmacists (Homeopathy), 25 posts of Pharmacists (Ayurvedic), and 39 posts of Laboratory Technicians.

The state cabinet also cleared a proposal for the creation of 90 promotional posts for Multipurpose Supervisors (Male and Female) under the health department, Chowdhury said adding that 12 posts LDC in the Directorate of Audit and four Assistant Directors (promotional), six Senior Information Officers (promotional) and six Reporters (direct post) has also been created, which would be filled up very soon.
