Imphal: The One District One Product (ODOP) is an initiative of the Central Government especially for economic growth and generate employment and rural entrepreneurship, taking the people of the country to the goal of Atma Nirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India). In the ongoing Mai-Own, 2021 exhibition at Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal the initiative of ODOP is being showcased.
The DIPR team explored the unique products from each district of the state on Day 3 of the exhibition. Under the Directorate of Handloom and Textiles, there are 60 stalls which are displaying a number of handloom and textile products. There are 16 stalls representing one stall each from 16 districts of the State displaying the unique Handloom and Textiles products and one product is selected and showcased under ODOP.
For District Handloom and Textiles Imphal West, stall no. 78 is showcasing only ‘Ataobi Bedsheet’, District Handloom and Textiles Imphal East, stall no.89 ‘Wangkhei Phee’, District Handloom and Textiles Jiribam, stall no.97 ‘Cane Sofa’, District Handloom and Textiles Churachandpur, stall no. 98 ‘Paite Puandum (traditional Paite shawl both for men and women folk), District Handloom and Textiles Pherzawl, stall no. 101 ‘Thangsuopuon ( traditional Hmar shawl both for men and women folk), District Handloom and Textiles Ukhrul, stall no.102 ‘Longpi Black Pottery, District Handloom and Textiles Kamjong, stall no.104 ‘Traditional Waist Coat For Men, District Handloom and Textiles Tamenglong, stall no.105 ‘Pheingao (Kabul traditional shawl both for men and women), District Handloom and Textiles Noney, stall no. 107 ‘Langjin Pheisoi ( Kabul women wrapper), District Handloom and Textiles Senapati, stall no 108 ‘Tenymi Shawl’, District Handloom and Textiles Bishnupur, stall no. 112 ‘Silk And Cotton Products, District Handloom and Textiles Thoubal, stall no. 115 ‘ Kouna Products, District Handloom and Textiles Chandel, 122 ‘Sum (cane and bamboo products), District Handloom and Textiles Kangpokpi, stall no 124 ‘Saipikhup ( traditional shawl of Thadou/Kuki community), District Handloom and Textiles Kakching, stall no. 128 ‘Potteries of Thongjao’ and District Handloom and Textiles Tengnoupal, stall no.125 Phingairuk.
Speaking to DIPR, Coordinating Officer, Directorate of Handloom and Textiles, Government of Manipur, Lalhrietpui informed that the objective of the ODOP is to convert each district of the country into an ‘Export Hub’ by identifying products with export potential in the district, addressing bottlenecks for exporting these products, supporting local exporters/manufacturers to scale up manufacturing, and find potential buyers outside India with the aim of promoting exports, promoting manufacturing & services industry in the district and generate employment in the District.
She also informed that local textiles and handloom products will be made available to international customers through online marketing by engaging Paona Mart and Panthoibi.com and the target is to market around 50,000 products. The Coordinating Officer further informed that national and state awardees are participating in the exhibition of their unique handloom and textiles products.
Mentioned may be made that a total of 250 stalls were opened in the exhibition consisting of 205 as Commercial, 25 as Food stall and 20 Department viz., Forest, Planning, Police, Handloom & Textiles, MAHUD, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, DIPR and others.
