India’s first letter box at 5,500 meters

Shimla: A village in Himachal Pradesh located at 5,500 meters above sea level on Tuesday finally got a letter box — the first time any place at such a height will host such a box in India  

Chief Post Master General Vandita Kaul in Himachal Circle inaugurated the letter box in Hikkim village in Kaza sub-division in Lahaul-Spiti district.  

Assistant Public Relations Officer Ajay Benyal said the letter box, 14 km from Kaza, was “the highest altitude letter box of India Post”.  

Hikkim is a popular tourist spot in Spiti.
