Agartala: A 32–year-old man has been stabbed here, with the Congress blaming the BJP and claimed the victim was set to join its fold in Tripura on Saturday.

The Congress leaders said the victim Subrata Saha had been with CPI-M and BJP had been persuading him for the last few months to join them. But he didn’t agree. Recently, he decided to join Congress and an hour before the attack, held a meeting with his followers about joining on Saturday. Saha was slated to cross over to the Congress in the Debinagar village of Ranir Bazar in the eastern part of Agartala along with 36 others, a party leader claimed.

According to reports, while Saha was returning home on Friday night, a group of miscreants stopped him and asked him to join BJP, but he refused. The miscreants stabbed on the right side of his abdomen and when he raised an alarm they fled leaving him on the road.

His family members and friends took him to Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC), where he has been struggling for life. The police couldn’t record his statement properly yet because of his serious health condition. As a result, the investigation has not yet begun, police said.

Meanwhile, CPI-M State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhry on Friday wrote to IGP (Law & Order) giving details of 23 miscreants allegedly belonging to the ruling BJP who had perpetrated attacks and ransacked the houses of opposition leaders in broad daylight on May 31 in Mohanpur of West Tripura.

The CPM tribal front led by Chowdhury held a Raj Bhawan march on Saturday in an impressive rally complaining about the deteriorating law and order situation and police inaction. However, police stopped them near the Circuit House where the leaders addressed the gathering and slammed the BJP-led government.
