Kathmandu: Beijing has denied entry to 225 Nepal students, who are pursuing MBBS in China, to complete their degree, the media reported on Saturday.

According to The Himalayan Times, the students’ vaccination certificates are not being accepted, though, most of them have been vaccinated with Chinese Vero Cell vaccines. Meanwhile, the Nepal Medical Council is not allowing the MBBS students, who completed their education in China, to do intern in Nepal.

On December 29, the Nepal government had taken a decision to allow the students who have completed MBBS course in China to do internship in Nepal. However, Nepal Medical Council rejected to authorise the students’ online practical studies.

Nepal Medical Council President Bhagwan Koirala said that online classes have been authorised only for the theoretical subjects, but for practical classes the students are required to take in-person classes for the better quality of the education. Though the students have been protesting for past eight months, no government authority has taken note of their plight, the Nepal daily reported.

Shree Krishna Giri, vice-chair at Medical Education Commission, “The Ministry of Education and Technology has taken up the issue.” The commission said in a notice issued earlier that it would issue an equivalant certificate if the medical council gave them certificates of completion of their internship.
