J&K Sports Council invites applications from outstanding sports persons for govt jobs

Jammu: Almost two weeks after the announcement of appointing outstanding sportspersons in the government service, the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council has invited applications from deserving candidates for recruitment in the government jobs.

Notably, to give a major boost to the sports sector, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha headed administration in a New Year Bonanza on January 6 had rolled out jobs schemes in gazette and non-gazetted categories for outstanding players.

As per the advertisement notice issued by the J&K Sports Council, applications on prescribed format affixed with a passport size photograph and self-attested are invited from the eligible domiciles of J&K for an appointment in the Government Service in gazetted level-8 and Non- gazette categories in terms of the J&K (Appointment of outstanding sportspersons) Rules, 2022 for the quota of calendar years 2014 to 2021.

The government has categorised the sportspersons based upon the merit with nation and international level participation) for the gazette and non-gazetted posts.

However, under the Rules, the applicant should have represented at the District, State/UT and National level competitions prior to International competitions, said the notification.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in the exercise of the powers conferred to Article 309 of the Constitution of India has recently announced rules called the Jammu and Kashmir Appointment of Outstanding Sports Persons Rules, 2022 in an order issued here by the General Administration Department.

As per the order, the rules shall apply for the recruitment of Outstanding Sportspersons against Gazetted and Non-Gazetted posts reserved for the purpose.

However, those candidates shall be considered for the quota of Calendar year 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 who have secured position or represented in any event/Game /competitions recognized under these rules during the period from 01.01.2010 to 31.12.2014; 01.01.2011 to 31.12.2015; 01.01.2012 to 31.12.2016; 01.01.2013 to 31.12.2017; 01.01.2014 to 31.12.2018; 01.01.2015 to 31.12.2019; 01.01.2016 to 31.12.2020 and 01.01.2017 to 31.12.2021 respectively.

The Sports disciplines under the rules are Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Tennis, Weightlifting, Wrestling (International Style), Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Judo, Shooting, Archery, Equestrian sports, Handball, Rowing, Roller/Ice Skating, Skiing, Squash, Billiard & Snooker, Chess, Golf, Kabaddi, Karate, Kayaking and Canoeing, Polo, Powerlifting (composite events only), Taekwondo, Yachting, Kho-Kho, Softball, Wushu, Fencing, Sports for physically challenged, Baseball, Netball, PencakSilat, Triathlon and Ice Hockey.

The maximum number of appointments of outstanding sportspersons against the direct recruitment quota in all the services during the calendar year shall not exceed five in Gazetted cadre and 25 in the Non-Gazetted Cadre in any case.

The previous advertisement notice(s) issued for the quota of the calendar year 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 shall be deemed to have been withdrawn ab-initio, read the advertisement notice.

Pertinent to mention that Advisor to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan, who is in In-charge Youth Services and Sports, on January 7, had said that the administration will be taking sports to the last man in every part across the Union Territory and no sportspersons will now have to run pillar to post to for their rights.

He said that cash rewards for sportspersons are also in the pipeline in an upcoming comprehensive ‘Sports Policy’, to be launched soon.

The Committee to scrutinize and finalize the appointments shall be consist of Chief Secretary as its Chairman, Administrative Secretary, Home Department, Administrative Secretary, Youth Services and Sports Department, Administrative Secretary, General Administration Department, Director, Youth Services and Sports, J&K and Secretary, J&K Sports Council as Members
