Mumbai: In a bid to avoid division of votes, the NCP on Monday announced that it is ready to ally with like-minded parties in the forthcoming assembly election to keep the BJP out of power in Uttar Pradesh and other states.

Speaking to media persons here, party spokesman Nawab Malik said, “The NCP is in talks with the Indian National Congress in regard to Goa assembly election to show unity among the opposition parties to remove BJP from power.”

“But, so far we have not received a response from Congress,” he clarified, adding that his party is also holding talks with Akhilesh Singh Yadav of Samajwadi Party for UP polls.

Pertinently in the 2017 Goa assembly election, the Congress was the single largest party having 17 out of 40 seats.
However, it failed to form the government as the BJP reached out to the regional parties and managed to garner 13 seats more.
Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Goa are slated for polls early next year.
