Shillong: The North East Student’s Organisation (NESO) will be organising programmes in protest against the killing of Naga civilians in Nagaland’s Mon district in the respective state capitals of the seven northeastern states in December 9.
NESO Chairman Samuel Jyrwa said the programme is a protest against the heinous act committed by the security forces at Oting village on Saturday which led to the death of 14 people and injuries to many others.
He said the programme is also to show our solidarity with the people of Oting village in particular and the people of Nagaland in general who are going through this heart-stricken grief.
The apex student’s body of the indigenous student groups – All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) – across the seven Northeastern states reiterated its longstanding demand for repealing the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
NESO once again is reiterating that the Government of India should show its willingness and sincerity for peace to prevail in North East by repealing the (AFSPA otherwise it will only be seen as an act of aggression and suppression of the voice of the people by using the military power at their disposal without a concern for the well being of the people of the region,”Jyrwa said.
