Shillong: Two Bangladeshi nationals, who came for sightseeing to the India-Bangladesh border and inadvertently entered into Indian territory in Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills district, were apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) and handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) as a goodwill gesture.
A BSF statement said the two Bangladeshi nationals – Md. Akhter Ujjaman and Md Amirul Islam were apprehended on November 20.
“BSF always adopts a humanitarian approach in cases of inadvertent crossing and minors,” the statement said.
“Both the Border guarding forces have developed an understanding on such subjects and these issues are amicably resolved to strengthen the existing relationship and to enhance mutual trust between both the neighboring countries,” it added.
Meghalaya shares a 443-km border with Bangladesh, part of which is porous, hilly and unfenced and thus prone to infiltration.
